چکیده

An approach to estimate blood flow cross-sectional velocity profiles in intravital microscopy videos of post-capillary venules is proposed. Given an image sequence, the cross-section upon which the velocity profile is to be estimated is manually chosen. The velocity of each streamline, assumed perpendicular to the chosen cross-section, is estimated separately from other streamlines, except for a smoothness constraint imposed on the velocity profile. Video instability and undesirable structures transparently superimposed on the flow stream are accounted for in order to diminish their adverse effect on the estimation. The proposed approach is tested on synthetic, in vitro and in vivo videos.

How Good Are the Fits to the Experimental Velocity Profiles in Vivo ?

A new velocity profile equation for the description of microcirculatory blood flow in vivo was proposed in 2009. However various recently published papers still use the assumption of parabolic velocity profile (Poiseuille flow). The purpose of this work was to evaluate the performance of 3 different fitting cases: 1) best parabolic fit, 2) axial fit with the proposed equation and 3) best fit wi...

A Mathematical Model for Blood Flow Through Narrow Vessels with Mild-Stenosis (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper we examine the effect of mild stenosis on blood flow, in an irregular axisymmetric artery with oscillating pressure gradient. The Herschel-Bulkley fluid model has been utilized for this study. The combined influence of an asymmetric shape and surface irregularities of constriction has been explored in this computational study. An extensive quantitative analysis has been performed ...

PERFORMANCE MODEL AND ANALYSIS OF BLOOD FLOW IN SMALL VESSELS WITH MAGNETIC EFFECTS

In this paper consider a two-fluid model consisting of a core region of suspension of all the erythrocytes (particles) in plasma (fluid) assumed to be a particle-fluid mixture and a peripheral layer of cell-free plasma (Newtonian fluid), has been proposed to represent blood flow in small diameter tubes with effects of magnetic. The analytical results obtained in the proposed model for effective...

Using Burnett Equations to Derive an Analytical Solution to Pressure-Driven Gas Flow and Heat Transfer in Micro-Couette Flow

The aim of the present study is deriving an analytical solution to incompressible thermal flow in a micro-Couette geometry in the presence of a pressure gradient using Burnett equations with first- and second-order slip boundary conditions. The lower plate of the micro-Couette structure is stationary, whereas the upper plate moves at a constant velocity. Non-dimensional axial velocity and tempe...

Assessment of microcirculatory remodeling with intracoronary flow velocity and pressure measurements: validation with endomyocardial sampling in cardiac allografts.

BACKGROUND Intracoronary physiology techniques have been validated extensively for the assessment of epicardial stenoses but not for the lone study of coronary microcirculation. We performed a comparison between 4 intracoronary physiological indices with the actual structural microcirculatory changes documented in transplanted hearts. METHODS AND RESULTS In 17 cardiac allograft patients witho...
